6-O'Fallon Brewery - Goat's Breath Bock Ale

January 6th - O'Fallon Brewery - Goat's Breath Bock Ale

The name of this style of beer is a bock which is a corruption of the midevil German brewing town of Einbeck, but also means "Bock" (a male deer or goat) in German. Thanks Wikipedia...I should donate.

I originally intended on beginning this post in the following manner: The Webster dictionary defines a Bock as a strong dark rich beer usually sold in the early spring.

It was at this point when I realized Kelly and I had completely mismanaged our beer purchasing. We based our daily dose of beer on how much we liked the label and not the seasonal element of the brew style. We are now counterpointing Haley and Jordan's systematic and consistent variation on a solid theme with wildly divergent experiences like the one that follows.

When you look at the label of this beer and a smiling goat wearing some sort of X-Ray sunglasses is looking back at you. The taste is sharp, and the beer highly viscous, very thin but with enough substance to not seem watery. Its appearance is cloudy and the color is a murky orange brown with small floating specks when it is held up to light. The Goat's Breath has a molasses smell which is nice and a taste more of a sour than bitter aftertaste...but maybe I don't really know the difference between those two taste sensations now that I look at it in print. But when the chips are cashed in, the other foot drops and the cows have come home, this beer is a zesty experience, but probably not worth the experience of having to look at the disturbing goat drawing on the bottle for more than a minute or two.

I give this 2 of 4 perversely fiendish goats having a whale of a good time due to their apparently X-Ray powered sunglasses and hipster soul patch facial hair. Maybe listen to Webster and drink it in the early spring.
